The AppleCD SC allows access to information stored on CD-ROM (Compact Disc Read-Only Memory) and also has the ability to play audio CDs. Read-Only Memory means that information can only be read from the CD-ROM, there is no facility for writing (saving) data on it. A remarkable amount of information can be stored on a single CD-ROM. One CD-ROM can store approximately 656 megabytes of information - that's about 270,000 pages of text, one to eight hours of speech or music (depending on the sound quality), 2000 high-resolution images, or any combination of text, sound, and graphics. To put it another way, one CD-ROM could contain: • An entire encyclopedia complete with illustrations • A 500-volume legal library • Detailed financial reports on all the companies in the Fortune 500 • Information on all the books in a library card catalog CARE AND HANDLING • Do not operate the AppleCD SC when it is on its side. Operate in the upright position only. • Never transport the drive with a caddy inside. • Do not remove the cover of the AppleCD SC. It contains high-voltage components that retain an electrical charge, even after the unit is switched off. • Leave 4 to 6 inches of clearance between the air vents on both sides and back of the drive. Click the graphic of the caddy on the right for information on the AppleCD SC device controls. -- part contents for card part 129 ----- text ----- General Information
